Ultimate Success 2 chose proven techniques to match
the style of instruction to the teen learner’s needs and
the content presented. A major benefit of the workshops
is the face-to-face interactions teens experience with
one another. When designing the workshops,
three types of "interactions" were considered:
teen interaction with course content
teen interaction with fellow teen participants
teen interaction with the instructor
The learning strategy includes
some key principles and steps:
Participation and Engagement: Teens learn better
when they are actively engaged in the learning process.
They are encouraged to share their experiences thus
fostering a collaborative environment.
Environment: The setting for the workshops includes
an introduction to the boundaries that help to foster
a “safe place” to speak up, experiment with new
strategies and to think outside of the box.
Understanding: Checking teens’ understanding by
asking questions, listening to their discussions and
using a vocabulary appropriate to their level improves
the learning process.
Feedback: Providing opportunities to practice and giving
teens specific feedback on their work gives them a
sense of their progress toward the workshop objectives.
Results: Keeping participants informed of their progress,
and recognizing them for work well done increases their
confidence in newly acquired skills and knowledge, and
encourages them to use what they have learned.
